ABOUT THE GATHERING
A celebration of arts and culture
The Gathering brings the wider community together in celebration of Celtic music, culture and performance.
In the spirit of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, against the historic backdrop of Ipswich, visitors will witness the colour and spectacle of the Queensland Pipe Band Championships, featuring 250 of Australia’s pipe band competitors.
A Highland dancing competition, Celtic music, lost arts and a medieval re-enactment will also feature at this annual Highland gathering of Scottish, Irish, Welsh, French, Spanish, Cornish Celtic cultures.
Visitors can also sample Haggis, learn how to play the bagpipes and even participate in the strong man style Highland games, featuring the caber toss, kilted dash and tug-of-war.
Bring the whole clan along and discover Celtic heritage and historic Ipswich at The Gathering, on the 24th May 2020 at the Ipswich Turf Club.

About The Gathering
The City of Ipswich Pipe Band started the event 30 years ago and it was previously known as the Ipswich Gathering of the Clans. The event has grown significantly over time, and in 2019 attracted an attendance of 4,500.
The Gathering is now presented by Limestone Events Inc. a local not-for-profit association with the objective of conducting activities which promote arts, culture and heritage in Ipswich. A group of dedicated volunteers coordinate this annual event.
The Gathering has a long-term focus to support youth Celtic music, culture and performance, through continued association with the City of Ipswich Pipe Band.
Our vision for the event is to become a major cultural festival on the Australian calendar - growing to a multi-day festival in Ipswich.
Promoting youth and educating the future
The City of Ipswich Pipe Band is regarded as one of the worlds most dedicated pipe bands with strong governance a cornerstone of its success. The band runs one of Australia's largest pipe band education programs at the Greater Ipswich College of Piping and Drumming (GICOPAD). The band aims to develop this program to reach hundreds of local youth in an accessible and inclusive environment. Through an event licencing agreement, profits from The Gathering are used to support this program by subsidising equipment and education costs.
